Comparative Effect of CCC and GA on Early Growth of Certain Vegetable Crops

Abstract
Comparative studies with pot culture in the field were made to determine the suppressive effect of CCC, known as an anti-gibberellin, and the promotive effect of GA on stem elongation of various vegetable crops.
Approximate half number of vegetable plants tested, upon an application of CCC, showed suppressive action on stem elongation, while that of GA produced striking promotive action on stem length (and also leaf areas). CCC in other plants, however, was almost without such effect.
No obvious difference was found between control and CCC treated in dry matter production, even though CCC suppressed stem elongation of certain vegetables. An single application of GA showed remarkable increase in dry matter production in most plants. This was considered due to the increase in stem length and leaf area.
It seems to be certain that effect of CCC on plants varies considerably as the kind of plants differ. No horticulturally as beneficial results could be expected as GA giving striking promotion in early growth of various vegetable craps end practical value.
